A Lasting Effect

I like listening to music as much as any other person, but there are a few genres that I simply won’t listen to because of content. Rap is one of those genres. There are also a few singers whose music I will not listen to. One of those is Jamie Foxx.

The name Jamie Foxx sounded slightly familiar over recent years but I never really knew who he was until I saw the movie Rio. I heard him sing through his character, and fell in love with his voice. So after doing a little research and finding out he made a living off music, I thought I’d check it out.
Big mistake.
No one wrote in Wikipedia that most of his songs contained explicit content. It didn’t take very long for me to shut off my iTunes in disgust. I have to wonder how people can write lyrics, clearly glorifying man’s lusts in such a way that does nothing but idolize a woman in an inhumane way. And then I wonder how people can listen to it without being affected by the content.
But that’s the catch isn’t it? People really are affected by such content and most of the time, they don’t even realize it.
I think one reason that teenagers find themselves in dangerous situations these days is because they surround themselves with friends and media content that promote abhorrent behavior that idolizes sexual activity outside marriage, drug use, and alcohol.
Even if a person listens to such music without the desire to do such acts, he is still being bought into the idea that it is acceptable. This type of content is anything but acceptable. We need to protect ourselves and our peers from falling into traps such as these.
Explicit content in music, as with all other forms of media, makes an impact. Do not buy the idea that it is okay or that it is acceptable. It is not. It does not bring satisfaction in any way and it will leave a lasting effect on anyone who buys it.
